When I was a little girl, I had a neighbor whose daughter was a few years younger than me. We weren't good friends, but I was always trying to find ways to invite myself to their home because it smelled like freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I thought the mom was holding out on me, because snack time never yielded any of those cookies. So one time, I asked her about the cookies and she said, "I haven't baked any." I insisted, she played coy and innocent. She must have hidden some crazy cookie air freshener somewhere. It drove me mad with longing.

I am finally getting my revenge with my new perfumes. I can be the one smelling like something delicious right out of the kitchen and *nobody* will be the wiser! :D :D

In other words---I GOT MY BPAL YULE SHIPMENT!!

I bought bottles of four of their Yule blends and received a strange and random assortment of 8 free samples of other things to go along with it.

I got:

EL DIA DE LOS REYES (Hot cocoa with cinnamon, coffee, and brown sugar. )
~~Oh, yum! Hot chocolate. The coffee burns off fast and leaves me with cocoa. That cocoa scent gets cooler and more dehydrated over time until it is more cocoa powder and sugar than the beverage. Mmmm.

SLEIPNIR (Confections spun of hazelnuts, honey, elderberries, and bilberries with a dusting of hay and a bit of carrot.)
~~My husband says this smells like the happiest horse ever. Yummy, nutty, warm, and super-comforting scent.

JOULUMUORI (... a glowing hearth, luumukiisseli, riisipuuro, and sima.)
~~Do not like. I can't even tell you why. Just...no.

PET MAGAH BIRD (blood orange, black plum, sugar cane, guava, frangipani, coconut, pimento berry, violet, caramel, and pear.)
~~Oh, violet. You make me sad. This is a wild array of fruits with an undertone that I'm not so wild about. This bears a few repeat tests, though, where JOULUMUORI is a definite "No".

(and frimps of THORNS, AGAINST IDLENESS & MISCHIEF, TO A WOMAN, THE SEA FOAMS BLOOD, PORT-AU-PRINCE, LA BELLA DONNA DELLA MIA MENTE, BANEBERRY, and URUK.)

I'm still waiting on the sample decant sizes I ordered through a decant circle of some of the other fragrances I wasn't too sure about.

I think I've tested Sea Foams Blood and loved it (or perhaps it was just something similar!). Are all of the frimps from the Yule collection?

I'm not sure what the scent of Joulumuori would even be like. I know a hearth, but not the rest of the notes... at least you have two real winners and one possible fallback. :)

None of the frimps are from the Yule collection. They're all general catalog. The company only gives samples of their permanent fragrances, not the limited edition like Yule. :)

I googled the scent notes for Joulumuori once and they translated to things like prune soup and...I don't know. Finnish foods? :) At the time I was like, "Great! Foodie! I'm getting it!" But yeah, not so much what I was hoping for.

Sounds interesting... maybe if it was a spicy fruit, like a mulled wine? I like the odd scents, but even that sounds a little too out there for me! Are there any will call events near you? Rhi really opened my eyes and it's nice to have a place to try out the scents ahead of time. Every city should have one, hmph! :)

I must have smelled that one then! It was a salty-sweet scent if I recall correctly, and I liked it the day I tried it. I went with "Art of Enthusiasm" instead, which has some similar notes, but it's definitely not musky. I hope you like it and all the other little treats! I didn't even know they did samples... how nice!

No, you're super lucky with the will-call in your area. They only have them in Atlanta and at the lab itself--L.A.?

So yeah, super jealous. :D It'd save me a ton of money if I was trying before I was buying. ;)

Aww, that's stinky! Puns, har har. ;D

Every city should have one! The same location of the Will Call sells from the general catalogue on the shelves on the non-WC days. I stumbled across the display while checking out the other oils being offered. I wonder why Atlanta! The woman that runs it is great and so helpful, but I do wonder how Atlanta got chosen as the second location... Hmm.

A few Whole Foods offer BPAL for sale. At that particular location, the manager of the department is a BPAL nut and went to great lengths to organize and press for it to happen. :) That's really all of the story I know. A fan in a position of retail power. :D

Sleipnir sounds interesting! I'm waiting for my decants of all the snow scents, which are my favorites. :)
