01. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I left Graeme at home with Daniel for a couple weekends; I traveled alone with rental car and hotel and all those grown-up details; I saw the Grand Canyon.
02. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I'm not really a resolutions kind of girl. I'd say the year exceeded my expectations in all ways. :)
03. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nobody in my close, daily life but some folks I feel I know fairly well on LiveJournal did.
04. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes. My across the hall neighbor died unexpectedly last month.
05. What countries did you visit?
Canada and the Bahamas.
06. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Regular opportunities to go on dates with my husband while someone else watches Graeme. We'd love to go back to dance lessons.
07. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No particular date stands out though I imagine I'll always remember that day I rode a horse into the surf in the Bahamas. :) It was a return to horseback riding after a bad fall and about ten years.
08. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I think the biggest was the leaps and bounds Graeme made in becoming more independent. This year he self-weaned and was content to stay behind while I flew off to have weekends with friends and witchy pursuits. That was huge, getting to return to some of my pre-parenting life.
09. What was your biggest failure?
SpiralScouts. It had great potential but I didn't have enough fire and dedication and time to push it past the awkward early phase when parent/child interest wasn't there. I wasn't the right person to do it and it wasn't the right time in this community, I think.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I am suspicious that I had swine flu. Whatever it was, I was very sick for about a week and then pushed out of it.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Besides the sheer joy of buying all those pajamas, toys, and books for charitable children's organizations, I think Graeme's push-tricycle was a pretty great purchase. :) I'm also super stoked about all the crystals and minerals I got from the mining museum in Arizona.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My son. He's great!
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Tiger Woods. :/
14. Where did most of your money go?
Mortgage payments. We own four properties and 2009 saw several of them sit vacant for months as we searched for renters.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Taking Graeme on a mother/son cruise of Alaska. Spending a week of fall in upstate New York with some of my best friends. Watching
radshaun get his book deal.
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
I don't have any iconic 2009 songs. I did spend a lot of time listening to top 40 radio stations in the car while Graeme napped, so I'm sure any overplayed song on that list fits the bill. :) How about that gross Holiday Inn song?
17. Compared to this time last year, you are:
happier and more fulfilled.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Crafty Craft stuff! Photography!
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Procrastinating!
20. How will you be spending/did you spendChristmas Yule?
I'll be celebrating a Yule weekend with gifts and homecooked food and music and a special trip to see the Nutcracker performed on horseback! :) Christmas, we'll be with Daniel's parents as a stop on our drive down to Florida.
21. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
I'm anti-New Year's Eve. I never celebrate it. So it will probably be a quiet evening together in our new winter home.
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
No, but I remain deeply in love with my friends and family.
23. How many one-night stands?
None. My last one-night stand was probably 2000. Thank gods.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
This is a tie between a few: So You Think You Can Dance, Glee, and The Vampire Diaries
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
No. I'm in a good headspace. There's nobody I hate. :)
26. What was the best book you read?
The Hunger Games was pretty darn spectacular.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Hmm. Swim by Jack's Mannequin.
28. What did you want and get?
Time to spend with several of my friends here from LiveJournal.
29. What did you want and not get?
The chance to meet others from here. Also, I wasn't able to support Glamourkin's festival debut, either.
30. What was your favorite film of this year?
UP! made me cry and cry and cry.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was visiting my mom in her new home in Panama City Beach, Florida. It was our day to fly home, so we had an early morning at the beach for one more goodbye, drove along the coast, and then stopped in Seaside, Florida for vegan tacos and cupcakes oceanside. It was the most spectacular beach I've ever seen in my life. That day, I turned 31.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Nothing, really. An extra $10,000 would have been immeasurably satisfying to spend on pajamas for the Pajama Program. :) Universe, you have my number. :D
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Denim-clad and comfy! This is a parenting cliche but one that I adhered to long before I had a baby. ;)

34. What kept you sane?
A healthy sense of humor, a lot of travel, an amazing husband, tremendous friends, and liberal doses of sunshine and surf.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Jeff Probst.
35. What was your favorite video game of the year?
Outside of arcade games with Graeme, I didn't play any video games this year.
36. Who has made the most cameos in your dreams this year?
Either Josh Quick from high school or Ian Somerhalder from The Vampire Diaries. None of these dreams are what you think. ;)
37. Who did you miss?
I missed a lot of people. I'm especially bummed, though, that I missed my chance to meet
crafty_in_nh after all these years.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
atempestcyclone is pretty rockin. :D
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
There is life after motherhood and that I must, as a priestess, serve the larger community and live as a witch of hands and heart.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?"
They're really saying "I love you"
I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world

He's a great guy. We're hanging in there and in the end, it'll be worth it. :)

Date: 2009-12-16 09:52 pm (UTC)So many wonderful things ahead for you and your family in 2010! It'll be interesting to see how Graeme continues to develop and where his imagination will take him next, as well as seeing where your beliefs and dreams take you. I mean 500 pajamas? Totally obtainable. Totally. <3
