The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, along with Alicia Silverstone and other vegan celebrities, is hosting a three-week "vegan kickstart". They'll have daily tips and recipes, motivational stuff, and an online forum. It sounds very positive, supportive, and if some of the sample recipes I've seen are an indicator--delicious.

Click here to sign up before the January 1st launch!

I, for sure, need a vegan reboot, if not a vegan kickstart, to eliminate the dairy that's creeped back into my diet due to laziness, willful self-destruction, and depression. I know that not only do I feel better, morally in tune with my wishes, when I'm on a vegan diet but my body feels a hundred times more energetic, clear, and balanced. It is, frankly, an ugly, secret, deadly addiction of mine that I'm determined to kick for good (and for good!).

Will any of you be joining me for three weeks of vegan rah-rah-rah and awesome food photos? :D

I've also found, since Daniel gifted me with the iPod he doesn't use now that he's upgraded to an iPhone, that Whole Foods has a recipe app (with vegan options and shopping checklists!) and there is also at least one app that keeps track of what is (usually) vegan to eat in chain restaurants. That's way better than the paper print out. :D

I'd definately be interested in vegan recipes and foodstuffs. I've always been curious about how vegans eat and get their fill. Since I have so many friends who are vegetarian or vegan, I think it's about time I learned how to cook for them too!

It is a great way to experiment with more of the stuff in the produce section. I found that post-veganism, I was eating a lot more variety in my diet. I'm hoping the kickstart inspires me to go back to cooking more. I'm in a rut!

Is there a vegetarian one? I'd definitely be interested in a vegetarian one. :)

Not with PCRM, no. I suppose, if you wanted to keep dairy and eggs in your diet, it'd be easy enough to modify the recipes. :) Who knows, you might find you don't miss them!

If you have not discovered the OMG awesomeness that is Daiya, you should try it. It is freaking amazing. It is as good a fake cheese as tofutti is a fake cream cheese. It pleased my cheese-addicted omni mother. And fooled my cat.

I haven't tried Daiya. I'm moving to Florida for the winter, though, and will be living near a Whole Foods, so I imagine I'll be able to try a lot of new things. Is it found with the other vegan cheese alternatives?

I would love to try this but around here... Its really hard to buy vegan.

I will try though, I have already signed up at the ymca for swim and I wanted to go raw... but thats REALLY hard to do, so maybe making an inroad into veganism will be the way to go.

I think (and hope) that a lot of the recipes and things they'll produce don't rely on the vegan shortcut foods that can be tough to find. If you cook out of the produce section, I think you'll find being vegan to be accessible even without all the specialty frozen foods and prepackaged solutions. :)

I'd be really interested in hearing about the program and how it works... It's interesting. I don't need a vegan kick-start, but I might need motivation to eat healthier, especially now that it's cold and I've become carb-obsessed. I used to work for PCRM and I have to say that they use good research regarding breaking old habits and forming new ones, as well as very solid studies on how foods affect hormones and how some (dairy especially) can have an almost drug-like effect on the brain. I love stuff like that, when you can see on paper the stuff you know but don't totally understand from experience.

I agree! I've been really impressed with them in the past and I think having daily recipes sent to me may get me out of my meal rut. I used to try new things all the time and lately I've been coasting on auto-pilot, eating the same foods all the time, and, like you, making too many of them bread and carb based. :/ I've gained weight, I don't feel good, and I'm tired of the insidious cheese creep.
