Magic Geraniums
Oct. 2nd, 2009 02:09 pmAfter eight hours of trial and error, we got our new dishwasher installed yesterday. Daniel says that it has been six months since our last one kicked the bucket and that we're lucky we haven't succumbed to some food-born illness during our handwashing days. I think it has been more like three months and that protective spells must work on a microbial level, too. ;) Either way, having one new and beautiful appliance in an old kitchen is very much like the magic geranium that will inspire us to finally move forward with our remodel plans. We've gotten some sample tile and countertop materials already and are pretty excited. It will be a combination of Daniel's sleek modern design aesthetic and my love of natural materials. There's going to be a tumbled stone tiled back splash behind the double sinks that I think will be pure magic.

Speaking of magic geraniums, this block print I picked up in Alaska is the inspiration for our master bathroom redesign. It has been a blahhhh space since we moved in. (Gray paint, unfortunate layout, zero decorative objects.) I traded our lavender shower curtain in for a vertical striped one in two shades of sea glass aqua, taupe, and a lovely not-very-brown brown. It feels like a beach cabana in there now, in a crisp, cool, arctic weather kind of way. :)
The charity company is towing my Cadillac away this evening. I think having that paperweight pulled away will not only free up our one parking space for the car we, you know, drive, but also will move some energy around in my life and allow me to get things like these redesigns done. I'm looking forward to those changes, to banishing the stagnation and reaching out towards the things that would make my days more meaningful, my everyday more beautiful, relaxing, and reflective of me.
